HLaw visits the Estonian founder factory at Latitude59 in Tallinn

If you know, you know and Latitude59 is one of the best tech festivals on the international events circuit.  Our team had fun attending for another year, catching up with existing clients and contacts and making new connections at Estonia’s tech conference, held annually in beautiful Old Town, Tallinn.

Positioned as a flagship event for the Baltic tech and innovation ecosystem, Latitude59 draws together founders, investors, advisors and just about anyone else in the wider ecosystem, including various local law firms with whom HLaw has worked closely on Estonia to UK flips and other matters with an English law aspect to them.

DefenceTech was the theme of most conversations, with numerous talks and side events focused on the subject; no surprise given the ongoing war in Ukraine and Estonia’s proximity to Russia.

For that and other reasons, many ventures there continue to look into ‘flipping’ into the UK or the US in the search for larger pools of capital and bigger markets to sell into.  We wrote about how the UK flip works HERE and have supported many Estonian companies and founder teams through the required acrobatics.

Estonia – and Tallinn in particular – has firmly established itself in the Baltics, and more widely in Europe, as a leading hub for innovation and technology. Given the country’s impressive digital infrastructure and the government’s proactive support of the tech sector, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Estonia is the leader in unicorns per capita in Europe and the momentum only seems to be continuing to build.
