Nearly a week after the Chancellor announced the “Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme” to help preserve jobs that would otherwise be threatened by redundancy, he finally responded to the pressure to provide similar assistance for the self-employed. At yesterday’s press conference on 26 March 2020 the Chancellor announced that self-employed people will be able to apply for a grant worth 80% of their average monthly profits over the last three years, up to £2,500 a month.
